Filling the gaps for a financial firm’s cybersecurity needs

Snapshot

A multinational financial data company came to Kalles Group in need of help updating their cybersecurity posture.

This company was facing a fairly straightforward problem: They didn’t have the in-house staff to modernize their cybersecurity tools and procedures. Kalles Group consultants carried out an end-to-end assessment of the company’s existing cybersecurity capabilities, and their strengths and weaknesses, in order to identify the critical gaps in their cybersecurity program. We developed a 24-month roadmap to fill those gaps by way of new tools, policies and procedures.

Challenge

Many businesses realize, at some point, that their cybersecurity practices need an update. They may be exposed to new threats against which they are undefended, or they may need to adjust their practices to stay in line with regulations, or they may even be unaware of the cybersecurity needs they are facing. But when businesses set out to fix these issues, they sometimes discover that they don’t actually have the resources and expertise to assess and fix these problems.

For this multinational data company, this was the case. They came to Kalles Group with a broad request: Find out what we’re doing wrong, or what we should be doing that we aren’t, and show us how to fix it.

Approach

Kalles Group’s consultants launched a comprehensive analysis of the company’s cybersecurity policies and procedures, as well as the tools it had implemented to deal with cyber threats. This process included a series of interview sessions with relevant people inside the company, including its cybersecurity executives and engineers, its IT executives and engineers, and its business leaders.

This analysis allowed KG’s consultants to determine what needed improvement, what was missing and what was out of date in the company’s cybersecurity arrangements. They found that this company could use an upgrade in a variety of cybersecurity areas, including identity and access management, vulnerability management, threat management, resilience and reliability management, and overall organizational security.

Results

Our end-to-end analysis gave us the information we needed to produce a detailed report that captured and illustrated the current state of the company’s cybersecurity posture. We then produced a detailed roadmap to guide the strategy, implementation and maturation of a thorough upgrade of the company’s cybersecurity arrangements over a 24-month period. We recommended expanding and improving cybersecurity processes and tools, as well as new and improved workflows, and offered advice on staffing and resourcing for the company’s cybersecurity program.

Our plan was so well received by our client that they asked us to carry on working with them – and begin the work of carrying out the implementation of our 24-month plan.
